Reading Conference Information |
Reading Conference Schedule |
I will meet with students during our independent reading time to conference with them about their current novels, do final conferences for completed novels, review reading logs, and review reading warm-ups. The purpose of conferencing is to ensure that students are accurately applying the reading strategies from our whole group instruction as well as to adapt instruction to their individual needs.
Students are responsible for reading during independent reading time and reading 20 minutes each night as a part of their reading homework. Please encourage your student to complete this assignment each night. This will ensure that they meet the 6th grade reading goal, which is factored into their reading grade, of 400 pages read per quarter. Throughout the school year, constant daily reading will expose your child to various authors’ styles and genres, and will improve your child’s fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing. Research states, “reading comprehension test scores are more influenced by students’ amount of reading than any other single factor” (What Research Has to Say About Reading Instruction, International Reading Association, 2002). Please join me in helping to create an environment where our students can enjoy books for a lifetime. Together we can continue to build a community of readers. Thank you for your help, support, and cooperation! |
Conferences will be held at the beginning of Reading and English, during morning work time, and during study hall.
Students have a scheduled day when we will conference. Additional conferencing will happen as time allows. Monday: 1-5 Tuesday: 6-10 Wednesday: 11-15 Thursday: 16-20 Friday: 21-23 |
